Wendy Williams and her Story with Primary Progressive Aphasia
I hadn’t heard term until this week when the public figure catapulted back on to the news scene with her announcement of having Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Lobe Dementia at the age of 59. Given her profession as a media personality, broadcaster, writer and national talk show host, this was a shocking statement.
Both diseases affect one’s ability to speak and communicate in many forms and it often leaves those diagnosed with the inability to discuss thoughts and concerns with others, sometimes resorting to hand signals or gestures to help do the “talking” for them. Wendy proved brave and wants this documented as well to help the public understand what these diseases are and how it is impacting her now and into the future.
The struggle has no cure as it is another form of neurological degeneration often resulting in mutism. You can read more at www.aphasia.org.
To follow and support Wendy on her journey, check out her latest information and documentary, “Where is Wendy Williams?” It airs in a two nights series on Lifetime starting February 24th.
Our hearts go out to Wendy Williams and her family. May her bravery for sharing her story help so many others and leave a legacy for this remarkable woman.
