Social Gatherings That Make a Difference
There’s a lot of hype today because it’s Super Bowl Sunday! Football fans are excited for today and sad that after today, football season is officially over, but for most of us, it’s just another day. There might be some parties to go to or a few people gathering around your house to see if Taylor Swift shows up. Today though, can also be an opportunity to just hang out with other people.
Sometimes we need a fun venue and food, but mostly, we need the connection of people in our life.
One important aspect as we age is that we tend to self-isolate. “It’s just another game.” “It’s too cold outside to be out that late.” “I don’t like all the noise.”
We can come up with a variety of excuses, but staying home day in and out has shown to be more harmful that just a night out with a few friends. We get comfortable in our routines and the effort sometimes doesn’t seem to be worth it.
I encourage you to consider it an opportunity to stay active and social. As Senior Living Advisors, we understand the benefits of being an active person compared to one that is not. Getting out and talking with others at a coffee shop or a grocery store can do wonders for your overall well-being.
Maybe football isn’t your thing, that’s ok! The National Institute on Aging has many other Fun Ways for Older Adults to Stay Active, check it out!
