What Does a Senior Living Advisor Do?
A senior living advisor works hard to help families identify the challenges that may leave your loved one at risk by continuing to live alone. Some senior take a jump start and move to Independent Living while others suffer a health crisis which may make around the clock care necessary.
Heidi did a great video about the differences between the most popular options. Check it out!
Independent living is usually when a senior is looking to downsize. Maybe it’s time to stop taking care of the yard and house, travel more and have no stairs. This is life lived on your terms and each person is different and the options are growing. Sometimes its a villa, townhome or condo. One where you still own the property with rights to remodel or change the inside as you wish. An independent community is generally an apartment that is rented and no maintenance of any kind - they will likely even change the furnace filters.
Assisted living offers more services and options to increase level of care services as needed. The community will offer a series of regular meals and possible medications reminders. It really depends on the services you wish to have offered. Added on services could include cleaning and laundry for a monthly fee. The units are often equipped with a kitchenette to offer snacking and beverages as the resident wishes to keep in their own space.
Memory Care helps care for and secure those suffering from cognitive issues where wandering, hygiene, meals are challenges for our loved ones. Our seniors are likely to do most activities of daily living with assistance. Memory care has a lower caregiver to resident ratio offering more attention to our loved ones.. One important feature is secured doors to keep our family member safe. Memory care communities will be a unit where all meals and snacks are provided, and caregivers may be assisting loved ones with eating and drinking.
There are more options and we will sit down with you to determine which may be the best fit for you and your loved one. We consider all factors and work with communities to ensure that we have a good fit for everyone. Moving is hard - let’s get it done right to ensure success and longevity for the years to come.
